The Most Common Camp Maldives Questions (And answers)

Applicants for the Camp Maldives program are responsible for booking flights.

You will need to fly to Malé Velana International Airport (MLE) in the Maldives.

The accommodation used on our local island experience programs are chosen to provide a balance of good service, comfort and value for money and a local experience. We do go off the beaten track in our program and it’s not designed to be a luxury tour with resort stays.

Whether you’re a first time traveller or an experienced explorer looking for your next adventure, just as long as you’re 18 or over, you can join us on Camp!

The average age is 20-30 but we also welcome many travellers in their 30s. There is no maximum age limit, so if you’re still young at heart and up for adventure like no other then join us!

 

The majority of our Camp Maldives applicants travel alone; it’s an amazing opportunity to meet incredible people and make friends for life.

The currency of the Maldives is called the Rufiyah, which is linked to the dollar at around 12.75 Rufiyah to the dollar. However, most resorts and many local islands will accept the US dollar (bring small denominations such as $1, $5 and $10) as payment.

Wifi at the Camp Maldives is limited and can drop off and can be used for emails only, not for downloading. If your phone is unlocked, you can purchase a Data Package on the island.

As an Islamic nation country Maldivians do not consume alcohol and it’s not readily available. It is found in a few Island hotels. However In short you probably won’t come across it on the local islands we visit, so please be respectful of the local culture around alcohol consumption and don’t make this the priority of your trip.

As a Muslim country, there are dress code considerations that need to be followed during your trip around local islands.

When around water, the local community or out in public, please stick to the following:

It’s acceptable for men to wear T Shirts and shorts or swim shorts. Females should avoid causing offence by having a conservative dress code to by wearing T Shirts, loose shorts or sarongs. Bikinis are not allowed to be worn on local island beaches or around the local community and we require our guests to dress with modesty on all LOCAL TOURS.

You will be allowed to wear bikinis in certain areas on some of the activities and our reps will advise you along the way.

If you have not yet secured your spot with a deposit then we can defer your acceptance offer up to 2 years.

After you have secured your place on the program we advise getting travel insurance to cover any unexpected events resulting in not being able to attend camp.

With our flexible booking policy we can move your trip date to another date the same year, we can even change your Camp location if you fancy. If you did not wish to defer your place you can check out our T&C’s for all the applicable cancellation charges HERE!

To partake in the program, you must be aged 18+ and have a clear DBS check. Moreover, a passion for adventure and helping less fortunate communities is essential.
