Day 2 – Meet Save the Beach

Today, you’ll gain a real insight into the importance of The Maldives’ ecosystems and
reasons to protect its fragile environment. As we join with Save the Beach, you’ll
discover the quieter side of life by exploring the smaller island of Villimale’. Learn about the conservation challenges arising from both tourism development and coastal development, unique to small island nations and how you can leave a positive impact during your stay. It’ll be a real eye opener!

We’ll then travel by boat to the island of Dhiffushi. We’ll cruise through the ocean by boat, so keep your eyes peeled and cameras at the ready for some marine life!

Day 3 – Dhiffushi

After breakfast, you’ll head out with a guide to explore Dhiffushi, a small island surrounded by lagoons and sand banks. You’ll learn how the locals live and the importance of the ocean to their lives and livelihoods. By the end of the day, you will have an understanding of practices that are damaging the marine ecosystems and what can be done to prevent this.

In the afternoon, it’s time to snorkel. As you will now understand coral reefs are fragile ecosystems so learning how to snorkel responsibly can also help minimise your impact on the marine environment and protect the delicate balance of marine
life. Dive into the crystal clear waters and explore the house reef.

B/-/-

Day 4 – Snorkelling with Turtles

Today be introduced to the work of the Olive Ridley project. Providing an insight into environmental monitoring and turtle studies preparing you for turtle snorkelling!
Grab a snorkel and prepare for wrinkly fingers and toes, as you head out by boat. With around 2500 reefs, the Maldives is the ultimate destination for those who love underwater adventures. You’ll have a guide alongside to make sure you feel safe in the water and they’ll also point out marine life that you may have missed. See how many turtles you can spot!

Can’t get enough of diving? Why not complete a Scuba Diving course! Speak to your guide for more information.

B/-/-

Day 5 – Chill Day (Resort Trip)

Today is yours to spend as you wish! Spend the day topping up your tan at the local beach or explore the island with your fellow travellers.

Fancy some more snorkeling or reef diving speak to your guide for some recommendations.

Fancy living the Maldives dream? Stilt houses and infinity pools? Nothing screams the Maldives more than a luxury resort.  You have the opportunity to visit a beautiful resort for a full day and live the life of luxury.

*Resort trip comes at an extra cost  – includes drinks, a luxury buffet lunch, club access and return transfers.

Day 6 – Conservation Day

Today is the day to make an impact. Learn about the islands conservation projects and get involved.

Despite being one of the most valuable ecosystems on the planet, sea grass is considered unsightly, and is often deliberately removed. You’ll learn the importance
of sea grass and why we call it the hero of underwater protection. Venture into the lagoon to discover and identify sea grass.

When it comes to plant and animal life in the Maldives, what usually jumps to mind is the vast diversity of marine life. However, the land itself has been shaped by the tropical climate and boasts 260 native plants despite its somewhat less than perfect soil. Together we’ll take some time to leave our mark and plant coconut palms.

B/-/-

Day 7 – Sandbank and Sunset Cruise

Today experience your very own Robinson moment on an untouched sandbank, enjoying time sunbathing, snorkelling or swimming in the clear blue lagoon. Don’t forget your camera!
As the sun sets, head back out to sea to enjoy a perfect moment when the sinking sun kisses the horizon, lighting the waves aflame in brilliant hues of gold and orange. You may even spot dolphins which are frequently seen at dusk in an area not too far from Dhiffushi.

B/-/-

Day 8 – Local Culture

Spend some time with the locals to really understand the Maldivian culture. You’ll play Bashi (a sport created and played by local women), learn a few key phrases and use rope knotting techniques to repair and build furniture.

This afternoon, you’ll meet the fishermen at the harbour and learn how to fish the
traditional way using just a line.

B/-/-

Day 9 – Island Exploring

Transfer by early morning ferry to Thulusdhoo where the rest of the day is free for you to relax or explore the island. The island is home to a Coca Cola Factory, the only
Coca Cola produced with desalinated water in the world! Why not take a tour of the factory and learn more!*

Wherever you go in the Maldives, sunsets are epic, but our favourite spot to enjoy them is on the Western side of Thulusdhoo. In the evening we’ll walk there and enjoy the view. The colours are amazing, so make sure to pack your camera.

*Tour is at an additional cost

B/-/-

Day 10 – Stand Up Paddle Boarding or Kayaking

This morning you have the opportunity to learn how to kayak, or stand up paddle boarding. With an instructor, you’ll practice the skills on land before putting them to the test on the water. This is one of our favourite days for sea, sun and fun.

B/-/-

Day 11 – Island Clean Up – Impact Day!

Enjoy a leisurely morning on the beach. Optional activities or water sports are available. Jetski anyone?*

In the afternoon, join forces again with the local community for a beach clean-up.
Beach clean-ups are an extremely important event to help mitigate the problems
caused by ocean debris and the danger inflicted on marine life as a result of plastic
pollution, so it’s important we do our bit.

*Additional cost

Day 12 – Beach Day!

Another day in paradise. There’s a gorgeous white sandy beach at Thulusdhoo and
today is yours to make use of it. Feeling wild? Why not take advantage of the many

making both as well as tasting the food you make.

This afternoon, enjoy some free time to chill at the beach or explore the island.

Day 14 – Snorkeling trip

Rise and shine, we’ve got a snorkeling trip to go on. Get your cameras ready, and be
on the hunt for wildlife as we sail through gorgeous reefs before discovering the
the underwater world of the Maldives. Later we’ll drop by a sandbank to get involved with a beach clean up before relaxing in the sun.

Day 15 – Pool / Beach Day & BBQ

Can relaxing on the beach, swimming in the rooftop pool, and sipping on coconuts ever
get boring? We didn’t think so. That’s why today is yours to kick back and chill.

Tonight we’ll enjoy a BBQ on the beach and you can soak up one last sunset in the
The Maldives. Send those final friend requests and give all your friends a big hug, because
tomorrow you’re homeward bound.

Cultural Considerations

Here at Camp Maldives we provide local island experiences off the beaten track. Getting off the tourist trail isn’t for everyone, but In our opinion it’s the best way to travel and will provide you with a truly unique experience. With that comes certain cultural considerations that you need to be aware of.

So please take a read of the below and let us know if you have any questions.

Alcohol

As an Islamic nation, Maldivians do not consume alcohol and it’s not readily available. It is found in a few Island hotels. However In short you probably won’t come across it on the local islands we visit, so please be respectful of the local culture around alcohol consumption and don’t make this the priority of your trip.

Culture & Dress Code

As a Muslim country, there are dress code considerations that need to be followed during your trip around local islands. When around water, the local community or out in public, please stick to the following: It’s acceptable for men to wear T Shirts and shorts or swim shorts. Females should avoid causing offence by having a conservative dress code to by wearing T Shirts, loose shorts or sarongs. Bikinis are not allowed to be worn on local island beaches or around the local community and we require our guests to dress with modesty on all LOCAL TOURS. You will be allowed to wear bikinis in certain areas on some of the activities and our reps will advise you along the way.

Accommodation

The accommodation used on our local island experience programs are chosen to provide a balance of good service, comfort and value for money and a local experience. We do go off the beaten track in our program and it’s not designed to be a luxury tour with resort stays.
